Happy Friday! Here’s what I’ve been loving lately.
Listening:
I’ve always been a sucker for Broadway soundtracks and musicals in general, so when I saw the Notebook clips on TikTok (specifically Joy Woods belting out “My Days” – the girl has pipes!!) I was intrigued. How the heck is this a musical?
(I really didn’t like the movie, though admittedly I didn’t see it until my sophomore year in college during a breakup and with my single roommate lol. The ending felt so impossibly cheesy I threw the remote across the room. Young angst!) But honestly? It’s giving me more happiness than I expected. Maybe it’s because musicals are meant to be cheesy? Or because now looking at the soundtrack I’m realizing that Ingrid Michaelson is the composer? It’s giving me all the feels. I love the trend of female artists writing Broadway shows – Waitress is still a musical that appears regularly in my listening history.
Knitting
A few things, because how else would I do this?
- I finally hopped on the bandwagon with “A New Leaf Beanie” and it doesn’t disappoint! I hadn’t seen this stitch before and it doesn’t quite work the way that I expected it to, which was actually a cool little surprise! As a bonus, the first one I posted was a luxury beanie and it sold right from the FB post. (Thanks, Libby!)
2. I’m collabing with my friend Leah who runs @itsrockysmountains on IG to design a dog beanie and matching human one because, well, why not be that extra? Scrolling through the available patterns on Etsy is quite the entertaining venture as not all dogs are meant to be models. So many wide eyes 😂 We settled on the look we wanted and I started writing and knitting this morning. Stay tuned!
3. It’s still pumpkin season and it’s still fun to see where in the country (and once in a while, the world) these go to!
Extras:
- Reading: I’m nearly done with “The Second Mrs. Astor” by Shana Abe and it has been really enjoyable! I enjoyed a deep dive into anything Titanic as a kid so this is right up my alley. Margaret Brown is also a major player in this book and as a Denverite, it’s an added bonus.
- Eating: Gluten Free Pumpkin Spice Bagels from Trader Joes. So so good.
- Saving my life: I just signed up for a Walmart+ membership trial…I don’t love Walmart but getting groceries delivered to my house means it’s one less thing I have to do in a week, so definitely a win for a mom with little kids! Apparently this also comes with a Paramount+ membership, so let me know what is a must see there!
- Watching: If you need nostalgia + something completely removed from real life, The OC (find on Hulu) might be the thing for you. It’s escapism and puka shells and polo shirts and Newport, and now that my brother lives in the LA area I know it a bit better than I would have if I had watched in high school.
What have you loved lately? I love a good recommendation!
