election thoughts // take heart

cm_nature-vol-1_20

Working in a shelter has made me acutely aware of the too often hidden violence in this country that occurs against women and minorities, and my heart is heavy that an unapologetic perpetrator of such violence will be in power.

But despite the heartache, I have hope, and will continue to live in love.

“…love winning has never been about political power. It’s been about the human heart. Love wins because when you nail love to a cross, it looks at you in the eyes and says it that it forgives you. Love wins because even when you bury it in the ground, it won’t stay buried. Love wins because love is the only reason to live. Don’t confuse political power with victory. What, after all, is a life of political power without love? What is money without joy? Fame without peace? It is nothing. It is less than nothing—it is hell.” -Michael Gungor

We have no idea what will happen to our world this much I know: Never give up/into the hatred &bigotry that fueled the outcome. I too spent my first 18 years in fear of my own mother (alcohol) and then my first husband (bully, violent). One day I got brave and got out. It cost me dearly (several children, but I had to get out.
